From September to December 2014, Aly travelled out to McLean, Virginia to work with USA Today’s award-winning investigative team. Her duties changed on an hour-to-hour basis. In one day, she could spend the morning requesting FOIAs from police departments, and focus on analyzing aviation disaster reports after lunch. One of her favorite projects was researching an investigative report that revealed major safety problems at pharmacies across America.
Aly regularly collected and analyzed numerical and digital data. She scoured LexisNexis, called up federal government offices and dove deep into thousand-line excel documents. She also assisted the breaking news team with overflow assignments, such as the Ebola outbreak.
